A-Z PREFACE

This aviation A-Z sits midway between a glossary with little detail and an encyclopaedia with too much. Besides technical explanations it has some little known facts and critical commentary not usually found in a technical book.

While it aims to give readers a good basic understanding, it should be regarded as a master key to further information on the Internet where one can find graphics, in color or video, very much better than we could ever provide here in black and white–with limited space and the need to observe copywrite.

Cases and regulations cited are generally for the United States, in the knowledge similar ones prevail elsewhere.

The “outlandish” title was chosen to indicate the A-Z is not only for journalists, aspiring pilots, and the many others with a professional interest in aviation, but also for a wider public.

This is the first printing of the book and inevitably there are important things we have missed or not got quite right. Feedback and suggestions sent to [email protected]  would be much appreciated.
